Garnetbank Primary School project update
13 March 2025
The Incorporation was delighted to recently provide support to Garnetbank Parent Council to support gardening efforts in their playground. As a city centre school with a relatively small physical footprint and playground with a completely concrete surface, there are few natural opportunities for greenery to thrive. However, the Parent Council have been working hard over the last few years to focus on bringing nature to the playground and the Incorporation gladly provided over £900 towards the latest project to introduce new tree pots and planting pots.
A large shrub was replanted from an old rotten barrel into a new bright blue "tubbie" pot and has been located in the Primary 1-2 garden playground.
Within the main playground, several new and existing fruit trees have been planted into long-term pots, with the support of the Incorporation.
The Parent Council reported:
"We had a great afternoon with the kids, drilling the holes into the pot, loading in the gravel and the compost and finally planting and staking the apple tree. The playground is looking so good. We are delighted to have started our mini orchard and have planting that will enhance the school day for everyone and we hope be future proof in these new pots. The whole school sends a massive thank you for your support."
